How to disable Win+L lock screen shortcut in Windows

The fastest way to lock your Windows PC is by using the built-in shortcut Win+L. Though it is very useful, but sometimes you may need to disable this shortcut to prevent from accidentally using this shortcut. Let us see here how to disable Win+L shortcut on your Windows PC.

How to disable Win+L lock screen shortcut in Windows

Disabling lock screen is very easy and all you need to do is edit the registry key.

  • Press Win+R keys to launch RUN dialog box and type regedit and press enter to open Windows Registry.
  • Now navigate to the following key in the Windows Registry editor.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPolicies

  • Here you need to create a new key. For this right click on Policies key located on left side and select New option and then on Key.

  • Name this key as system and press enter button and this will create the required key.
  • After creating new key, you need to create new DWORD value. To do this, right click on right pane and select New option and then DWORD(32-bit) value.
  • Name the new key as DisableLockWorkStation and press enter and set the default value to 0.
  • Double click on the newly created value and enter Value Data as 1 and click on Ok. This will disable the Win+L shortcut.

Restart your PC for the changes to take effect. To get the Win+L shortcut back, simply delete DWORD value you created.

How to disable entire Win shortcuts

  • To disable the entire Win shortcuts, you need to create new key under Policies named Explorer. 
  • Now you need to create new DWORD value in right pane and name it as NoWinKeys and press enter button.
  • After creating new value, double click on it and set the value data as 1. Then click on the OK button to save the changes.

Finally, restart your PC for the changes to take effect. That’s it, from now all the Win+keys will be disabled.
