How to disable Hardware graphics acceleration in Microsoft Office 2013

Microsoft Office is one of the great productivity tool from Microsoft and recently the company has released latest version of Office called Office 2013 and it is the great companion for Windows 8. Using Registry Editor

  • Press Win+X keys to open Run dialog box and here type regedit and hit enter to open Registry Editor.
  • In the left pane in Windows Registry navigate to

  • Right click on Common and select New > Key to create a subkey and name it as Graphics. Now in the right pane create the new DWORD by right clicking on the empty space and select New > DWORD value and name it as DisableHardwareAcceleration and double click on it.
  • This will open a small window and here set the value to and then click on OK.

Finally close the Registry Editor and restart the computer for the changes to take place.

Using UI

  • Create any blank document in any Office 2013 component and click on File.
  • In the following screen click on options.
  • In the next window click on Advance in the left pane and in the right pane scroll down and find Disable hardware graphics acceleration under Display section and click on OK.

  • Close the Office 2013 and then restart your computer for the changes to take place.

That’s it, now after restarting the system you will find mess with any issues before you are getting and they are resolved now. As the graphics acceleration is disabled, you will not find the special effects as before.
