How to disable action center and notifications in Windows 10

First, Microsoft has added Charms bar to Windows 8 Operating System and the company has received negative feedback from the users. Lot of users reported that the Charms bar is more annoying and to get rid of it one need to use third party apps or registry tweaks to get rid of the Charms bar.

In Windows 10, Microsoft has completely removed Charms bar and replacing it Microsoft has added a new program called as Action center or Notification center to Windows 10 which works similar to the Notification center in Android devices. Though Action center is very useful addition to Windows 10, some users want to remove it.

How to disable action center and notifications in Windows 10

1. Remove Action center from taskbar notification area

This method doesn’t disable the action center completely, but only removes the Action center icon from system tray in taskbar.

  • Right click on data/time option on Taskbar and click on Customize notifications icons option.
  • Here click on Turn system icons on or off option.
  • In the next screen turn Action center slider to off.

2. Disable Apps notifications in Action center

  • Right click on data/time option on Taskbar and click on Customize notifications icons option.
  • Under Notifications section, set the below options to off position.
    • Show me tips about Windows
    • Show app notifications

That’s it, this will disable the app notifications in Windows 10.

3. Using Group Policy Editor

  • Press Win+R keys to launch RUN dialog box and type gpedit.msc in the RUN box and hit enter. This will launch Group Policy Editor. 
  • Navigate to
    User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar
  • Now find Remove notifications and action center in the right side pane and set it to Enabled.
  • That’s it, exit from group policy editor and restart your PC for the changes to take place.
